Avon is a familiar name across the United States and all over the wide world too. In 1886, David H. McConnell founded the California Perfume Company, which would become Avon, in New York City. Avon's first product was the Little Dot Perfume Set. The original product line has expanded to include jewelry, soaps, Christmas ornaments and other household goods. The product line itself grows to include Fancy Soaps, Scented Candles and Holders, a complete Children's Line of plastic toys filled with soaps and bubble baths, Stationery items, Christmas ornaments and Special Occasion gift packs, even Avon Jewelry introduced in 1971 and Family Fashions in 1973. Among the top sellers of beauty products, Avon Products continues to increase its product lines, promote its products, and grow bigger every year.
Collecting can be a fun, rewarding, and, sometimes, profitable pass-time. Collecting is a hobby that is made unique by each and every collector; no two collections are ever alike. One of the most popular items being collected today are Avon Collectables. Collecting Avon items began seriously after the first of the novelty figural decanters were introduced covering themes from sports, cars, planes, trains, animals, guns, pipes, patriotic items, birds, flowers, lamps, plates, tea sets and even dinnerware to Special Limited Edition items produced and Awarded to High Sales Achievers. Avon has a list of the most popular and best selling collectibles, in order they are: figurines, dolls, plush products, collector's plates, ornaments and steins. Though there are other valuable and rare Avon pieces, CPC items, because of age and rarity, tend to be the most costly to acquire. As with most areas of collecting, however, the values of CPC and Avon collectibles will fluctuate with the rest of the market.
Bottles: The most popular subset being collected is cologne and perfume bottles. These bottles come in an assortment of colors, shapes and sizes. Figural and decorative bottles and decanters are the most collected items to date.
Plates: Collector plates are another big Avon interest. Avon has pewter, porcelain, and ceramic plates made throughout the decades; yet, the pewter plates don't appear to be at all popular. The porcelain and ceramic plates are highly desirable in the market. Among the most popular of the Avon collectibles are the annual Avon Christmas plates. Each year, the company releases a porcelain collector’s plate, trimmed in 22k gold, featuring a special holiday design.
The Avon collectible range includes Avon collectible dolls, Avon collectible plates, Avon collectible Colognes and Fragrances. Avon ornaments and Avon thimbles are also other popular Avon collectible items. The top selling collectibles are figurines, dolls, plush products, collector's plates, ornaments and steins. Collectibles offered through Avon include "Exclusive" or "first-to-market" items which often come with certificates of Avon authenticity. There are many Avon Collector Clubs in North American that can be found on the Internet and several books with history and information on Avon available. Networking with other collectors is another way to find items for collection. There are dozens of forums and blogs that cater to specific collectors. There are many books available for purchase that specifically deals with CPC and Avon collectibles. Any bookstore will have a selection of collectibles reference books.
